Our View: Spreading the Word

CEO, Enterprise Greece

Word of the Greek transformation, already recognized by growing numbers of international investors, is spreading further afield. This month international media groups like Reuters, The Times and The Economist have all had positive things to say about Greece’s return to economic growth and prosperity.
Both Reuters and The Times report on how the country has transformed since the financial crisis a decade ago. And they both laud Greece for its fast-growing economy and for regaining investment grade status. The Times also notes how growth in newly resurgent industries like renewable energy, pharmaceuticals and the agro-food sector are helping lift the economy.
But even more important is the outlook for the years ahead. Over the next several years Greece – already one of the most attractive investment destinations in Europe – will become one of the most investable locations on the planet.
A new study by The Economist group ranks Greece first among 82 countries for its improving business environment. What makes the latest recognition particularly significant is that it forecasts performance over the next four to five years. And it confirms a recent EY survey that sees Greece becoming an even more attractive investment destination over the next three years.
So for Greece, the best may be yet to come.
