Our View: Greece’s New Vibe

CEO, Enterprise Greece

There’s a new vibe about Greece these days. From the box office success of The Odyssey to the world’s growing love affair with Greek cuisine to the steady flow of students learning about classical and modern Greek history, the world is rediscovering Greece.
According to various media reports, the latest film version of Homer’s epic has led to a 70% jump in sales of the poem in the UK and the U.S.; a 5,000% increase in Google searches of “learn Greek”; and an almost 800% increase in listeners of The Odyssey podcast on Spotify in France. A few weeks ago, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis thanked director Christopher Nolan for helping touch off this renewal of interest in Greek culture.
But even before then, in late 2025, UNESCO proclaimed February 9th of each year, starting this year, World Greek Language Day. And, just a few weeks ago, Mt. Olympus – the seat of the ancient Greek gods – was inducted into UNESCO’s list of world cultural heritage sites.
The fact is that from the new private universities opening their doors in Greece to new culture and tech initiatives, from the world’s growing love affair with Greek cuisine to the growing number of foreigners buying homes in Greece, there’s a new vibe about Greece. And, at its core, it is Greece’s rich cultural heritage that continues to make Greece the place to be.
