Our View: Athens Riviera

CEO, Enterprise Greece

A landmark project is beginning along the Athens Riviera. The redevelopment of the old Athens airport at Hellenikon promises to transform the 70 kilometer Attica coastline into one of the Mediterranean’s leading destinations for decades to come.
The €8 billion project represents the biggest private investment in Greece ever and will take 10 years to complete. In that time, it will contribute 2.4% to Greece’s GDP and €14 billion in revenue to the state. It will create more than 30,000 jobs during construction and more than 70,000 permanent jobs thereafter.
The revitalization of Hellenikon represents the largest urban redevelopment project in Europe, and serves as a symbol of the new Greece that is emerging.
