Our View: A Reliable Partner

Amid a shifting global environment, Greece is seen as a reliable and trustworthy ally. With its current seat on the UN Security Council, its bilateral security agreements with France and the U.S., and its newly-assigned leadership role in an EU naval mission, Greece is becoming a valued partner with international reach.
And in keystone sectors like shipping and shipbuilding, in manufacturing and hi-tech, Greece is developing a defense industrial base that is establishing the country as an investment destination for the world’s $500 billion defense market. An emblematic example is the recently launched €1.35 billion Project Trident – a partnership between Greece, the U.S. and South Korea. The project will establish Elefsina as a regional hub for shipbuilding, logistics and defense manufacturing and is projected to add as much as 0.8% to Greek GDP.
In overseas markets, Greek defense exports are gaining attention and attracting international buyers. At this month’s Eurosatory defense exhibition in Paris, Greece’s Metlen and KNDS, the European defense giant, showcased their strategic partnership by rolling out their joint VBCI Philoctetes armored fighting vehicle.
This month’s NATO summit underscored the need for increased defense spending in response to geopolitical tensions. And Greece and Greek companies are ready partners at this moment in history.
