Total exports for May rose 20.8% to €5.07 billion led by a 74% rise in exports of petroleum products. Excluding oil, total exports were up 4.2% on year in May. Significantly, the data for the first five months of the year show the value of Greek exports accelerating, rising by 13.5% compared with the same period in 2025, and up from a 11.3% growth rate in the period January to April. Excluding petroleum products, exports of Greek food products – one of the country’s signature export categories – are up almost 10% in the first five months of the year.

  • Record FDI – Foreign direct investment in Greece jumped sharply last year to reach an historic high of $12.86 billion in 2025, according to the latest World Investment Report by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). • Hospitality Investment – Greece was named as Europe’s preferred investment destination in the hospitality sector, according to new findings conducted by market intelligence company Questex. The survey also reveals that investors are increasingly seeking professionally managed luxury assets, rather than distressed or turnaround opportunities. The strong interest in Greek hospitality reflects steadily growing visitor arrivals and a renewed focus on Mediterranean destinations by investors.

According to the OECD Diaspora Review: Greece, return migration has been steadily increasing since 2021. The returning population is generally younger and more highly educated than the national average, providing a significant boost to Greece’s skilled workforce.

  • Water Strategy – Τhe Greek government has unveiled the country’s first National Water Strategy, part of a three-decade-long, multi-billion euro program to better manage the country’s water resources. These include a €65 billion call for proposals by September from municipalities facing water shortages, and a further €50 billion call that is expected to be issued in September for islands facing water scarcity.

  • Judicial Reform – Recent reforms to Greece’s judicial system have dramatically reduced waiting times for court decisions in Greece, according to data provided by Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis. Since the reforms were introduced 18 months ago, the average time for a decision to be issued in the Courts of First Instance has dropped from more than two years to less than one year. Moreover, clearance rates now exceed 100%, meaning that all incoming cases for the court year are cleared, as well as part of the backlog from previous years.
