Greek F&B exports poised to reach new highs, draw global attention

Amid rising worldwide demand for the Mediterranean diet, Greek food and beverage exports are poised to reach new highs – potentially surpassing last year’s record of €10 billion – and with Greek producers continuing to command center stage in the global market.

This month, more than 300 Greek food and beverage producers – the largest number ever – showcased their products in Cologne, Germany at ANUGA 2025, the world’s largest food and beverage trade fair. The Greek national delegation ranked sixth in size among 200 participating countries, confirming the ever-increasing recognition of Greek products internationally.

Recent export data also confirm the trend. According to the Greek Exporters’ Association, or SEVE, the value of Greek F&B exports has been growing at a double digit rate this year, despite global uncertainty and muted international trade. For the eight months through August, Greek exports of foods and drinks reached €6.06 billion – the best performance of all of Greece’s export sectors.

“At the sectoral level, the food sector recorded the largest increase in absolute terms, showing an increase of €605.3 million, or 11.1%, confirming its continued momentum in international markets,” the Association notes.

Greek foods have witnessed a decade-long boom, roughly tripling in value over the last 10 years, turning the industry into a top export sector and significant driver of Greek economic growth. The growth has extended across product categories, from fresh fruit to olive oil, from dairy products to wines and spirits.

One example: Greece is now the world’s fourth largest producer of kiwi fruits – due to the high quality and long shelf life of Greek kiwis. In response to increased demand, production has more than quadrupled over the past 15 years to 300,000 tons of kiwi fruit annually. Greek growers are also expanding into yellow kiwi fruit, which is gaining popularity in international markets.

The export growth of Greek foods has also attracted a raft of both foreign and domestic investors and including food producers from Asia and giant multinationals like Mondelez.
