From fine fashion to fine furniture, Greek made and designed consumer goods are gaining recognition and market share in international markets, underscoring how Made in Greece has become a hallmark of quality and style.
Consumer goods exports – including clothing, cosmetics, footwear, furniture and jewelry − had a particularly good year in 2022 rising 23.5% to €3.1 billion, with footwear and furniture exports posting notable increases. Greek textile and apparel exports, the largest sub-category, rose by almost a fifth to €1.8 billion, helped, in part, by disruptions in global supply chains from Asia and a shift towards near-sourcing production by buyers.
Growing participation by Greek exporters in foreign trade fairs also highlights the growing outward orientation of producers, further strengthening the Greek brand. In February, Enterprise Greece organized a national delegation of 44 Greek companies – the largest Greek delegation ever − at the concurrent HOMI Fashion & Jewels and MICAM Milano jewelry, accessories and footwear exhibitions, an event attended by 600 international fashion companies that presented new collections and trends for the summer.
The Greek participation included two catwalks based on the concept of “Summer in Greece”, where creations from Greek designers were presented. Inspired by themes of “Eternal Elegance” and “Timeless Quality’’, the record number of Greek companies attending confirmed that exports have returned to pre-pandemic levels and that Greek companies were gaining recognition in foreign markets.
